Psychometric Testing

What is Psychometric Testing?

Psychometric Testing is a formal testing process using validated and reliable measures of aspects of an individual's psychological or cognitive functioning. At Drop of Life, we conduct psychometric testing for assessing intelligence, achievement, personality and memory.

Intelligence Tests

Intelligence tests are a set of standardised tests or subtests designed to assess human intelligence.  They can help diagnose intellectual disabilities or measure someone's intellectual potential. At Drop of Life, our psychologists use the Weschler intelligence tests (WISC-V, WIAS-IV) and Vineland Adaptive Behaviour Scales to assess IQ.

Achievement Tests

An achievement test is a test of developed knowledge, measuring skills and knowledge learned in a given grade level. Achievement tests are often used in an educational setting to determine the level of instruction for which a student is prepared. At Drop of Life, our psychologists use the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III), which assesses the academic strengths and weaknesses of students. Achiement tests are usually paired with intelligence tests to provide a full picture of a students learning profile.

Memory Tests

Memory tests are use to measure short and long-term memory skills. They also evaluate specific aspects of memory such as:

  • visual and auditory memory
  • delayed memory
  • distractibility
  • retrieval from memory

Such tests are commonly used in clinical neuropsychological evaluations in which the goal is to identify a patient's pattern of strengths and weaknesses across a variety of cognitive domains.
